New Schedule for Winter 2013-2014

Our new schedule for next winter is now up on the website. This season we plan to start on 27th November 2013 and run through to early April. Price for our Premium Package(including luxury accommodation, all transfers, meals and 5 days glorious guided walking) remains unchanged for another year at €899 per person sharing. OurPopular Package has been totally revamped and is now based in luxury beach-front, self-catering apartments in Playa de Santiago. Still includes 5 days guided walking plus all transfers and accommodation but now priced at only €559 per person sharing.To get the season off to a great start we have an early bird offer for 27th November 2013....book your holiday (Popular or Premium Package) before 31st July and we will give you €50 off the published price!!Good news also for solo travelers...If you book our Premium Package in January or March (4 dates available) we will waive the single occupancy charge.

As in previous years we have based our schedule on Wednesday to Wednesday to avail of cheaper mid-week flights but if you can't find flights to suit our schedule we now have an arrangement with Diamond Resorts to provide luxury self-catering accommodation in Tenerife at very reasonable rates and close to the airport and ferry. If you fly in on Tuesday we will collect you from your resort in time to join our group arriving on Wednesday.

Although we still see ourselves as primarily a provider of walking holidays we are also very happy to make custom arrangements for anyone who wants to travel to La Gomera whether they plan to walk or not. Contact us for a quotation to suit you.As I write, Ryanair have not yet published their schedule for next winter but expect to see this within the next few weeks. Most other airlines (Monarch, Easyjet, Jet 2, Aer Lingus,Thomas Cook etc) are now available for booking.Best Wishes

Sometimes it rains in La Gomera!!

What a week! The worst storm in 35 years hit the Canaries last week coinciding with the arrival of our final "Popular Week " of the current season. Rain, high winds, floods, ferries cancelled......it all happened this week and if it hadn't been for the good humour and highly positive attitudes of our very resilient group of guests it could have been a total disaster for Gomera Walking!
However notwithstanding the horrendous conditions we still managed to get in 5 days walking with only one day of serious soaking thanks to our flexibility and being able to choose different areas of the Island to avoid the worst of the weather.
We also succeeded in feeding our group every evening despite having to evacuate one of our favourite restaurants when the sewers backed up & flooded the place before we had even got to our starters. A quick dart to higher ground in another restaurant saved the day!

The ferries were cancelled for two days due to impossible swell conditions in Los Cristianos harbour but luckily the schedule was back to normal for our group returning to the UK on Wednesday and today the sun is shining, the sky is blue and La Gomera is paradise once more!
We still have availability for our special offer week commencing 3rd April 2013. This is a premium week based in the luxurious Hotel Jardin Tecina and our special offer gives you €100 discount off our normal price plus if you are a solo traveller you save a further €100 since the Hotel have agreed to drop the iniquitous "single occupancy premium".
If you miss this opportunity then I'm afraid you will have to wait until November when we hope to start our new season for winter 2013-2014. I anticipate being able to publish our new schedule by end May and will send this out in our June Newsletter.Best Wishes

News from La Gomera

The New Year got off to a great start here in la Gomera with fabulous weather and, as a result of the late autumn rains, the colours in the mountains are stunning. Our January groups have enjoyed some marvellous walking in above average temperatures under blue skies which look likely to continue on into February at least.

Spring is definitely in the air with almond and other fruit trees glorious in their white & pink blossoms along the mountain paths while the next several weeks promise a host of brilliant colour as the echiums, aeoniums and sonchus throw up wonderful arrangements of flower and colour.

We still have availability in March and early April and some very good news for solo travellers....Hotel Jardin Tecina have agreed to waive their "single occupancy" charge for our last premium package which runs from 3rd - 10th April 2013.

Regrettably that will be our final package for our present winter season so should you feel like a sunshine break from the winter storms take a look at our remaining schedule and hopefully we'll see you in La Gomera in 2013.

Magnificent spring likely in La Gomera

Heavy rains last month have worked wonders and turned our Island green again giving it a lush appearance not seen since winter 2010. Those who have visited La Gomera in the past would have been amazed to see the torrents of water flowing down the usually-bone-dry baranca's. All this augurs well for a glorious spring and all the myriad of colour which that will bring.

Work continues a pace in the fire-damaged areas and it is heartening to see new growth sprouting from many of the near dead trees. I read on Monday that Gomera firefighters were awarded a prestigious Gold Award for their heroic efforts back in August to save lives, property and livlihoods. Well deserved.

We have added a number of new walks to our itineraries including for the first time a "there and back" walk which starts at Ermita de Guadalupe and across the baranca to Tequergenche giving some stunning views of Valle Gran Rey, El Hierro and La Palma. We have also walked a number of times through the village of El Cedro where we have been fortunate to be able to sit in glorious sunshine over a relaxing lunch of watercress soup served in hand-made wooden bowls with gofio and mojo sauces.

Our next availability is on Premium Package from 6th -13th February 2013 based in the beautiful 4 star luxury Hotel Jardin Tecina and we still have some places left on our Popular Package 23rd -30th January 2013. Low cost flights are available to Tenerife from several UK & Irish cities. As an example Ryanair is currently quoting €170 for return from Dublin and Easyjet £142 from Manchester. If you have some flexibility and want to take a few extra days in the sun we can help you find suitable flights to tie in with our week's walking package.

Please remember that in addition to our scheduled Premium and Popular packages we can also arrange transfers, accommodation for you whether you want to do a few days walking or not. Just let us know your requirements and we'll work up a quote for you.
